Alright guys, I decided I like using my blog to get messages out every once in a while, so I'll talk about global warming. I'm a big environmentalist, and I'm sure you probably think you've heard all this before but really, it's so simple to help the Earth.
1) Unplug things like cell phone chargers and laptop chargers when you aren't using them. Anything that's still plugged in takes energy, so even if it's off, if you don't use it that often, unplug it.
2) I like natural lighting, but of course electric lights are helpfull when there's not that much sunlight. Just remember to turn off the lights when you're done, even if you won't be gone long. Leaving electric appliances on when they aren't in use is a huge waste of energy.
3) Cut back on the beef. Cows eat a lot more grain than they produce meat, and clearing land for them to graze causes deforestation. It's healthier for you anyways. I love a good burger, but it's better to not have them that often.
4) RECYCLE!!! Americans create so much waste every day, several pounds of it. If everyone would recycle, we could turn all that junk into something useful. Instead of throwing away the paper you only used one side of and dooming it to a landfill, put it in the recycling and it can go to printing magazins and books. Also, if you have scraps of paper laying around, save them for things like math homework and writing down phone numbers and addresses. Anything can be useful, you just need to care enough.
5)Look for alternative fuel sorces. Fossil fuels create greenhouse gasses, which contribute to global warming. Nuclear energy is all good and fine, but as long as we just dump the radioactive waste anywhere, with little or no precautions, we could face some serious harm. It could wind up hurting us, or a lot of innocent wildlife and plants, depending on where we dump the stuff. It stays radioactive for years. Get involved with programs supporting solar and wind energy instead. It's good for the environment and we won't have to be dependant on anyone.
So please just take a little time put some effort. Its our world, the only home we have. It's not that hard to take care of if we really want to. I don't know about you, but I don't want to be living in a toxic waste dump anytime soon. Callie
